Community Aspire Project

The Community Aspire Project is an innovative partnership between Tyfu, Drugaid and Community Impact Initiative (CII) and is funded by the Big Lottery. Through a triage approach to support, the three-year Community Aspire Project will utilise community social enterprises as ‘training and development hubs’, for marginalised and stigmatised individuals, providing them with high-standard tailored support, training and work-based experience.

The Community Aspire Project will support individuals with experience of drug and alcohol misuse issues to increase their confidence and self-worth, develop transferable skills, achieve qualifications and access voluntary and paid employment opportunities, leading to improved re-integration with their communities.

Who is it for?

Eligible project participants will include those who:

  • Aged 18+;
  • Have been through a substance treatment programme;
  • Have their dependencies under control;
  • Are ready to engage with next steps of their recovery;
  • Are ready to experience the working environment;
  • Are ready to participate in training;
  • Have a desire to reintegrate themselves back into their local communities and wider society.

The Community Aspire Project is targeted at people who are at a stage in their recovery where they are ready to experience the working environment, participate in training and have the desire to re-integrate themselves into their local communities and the wider society.

What does it involve?

The Community Aspire Project will involve participants gaining employment experience whilst taking part in training and achieving qualifications. Employment experience will be gained at one (or more) of Tyfu’s social enterprises; these include:

Tyfu Café

Situated in Caerphilly town centre, the well-established café provides a real working environment where participants can gain experience and develop skills in the catering industry.

Tyfu “On the Go”

A mobile catering unit intended to take the café a step further into the community by supplying good quality food at events and freshly prepared buffets to local businesses and organisations, thereby expanding the participant’s catering skills into the hospitality industry.

Tyfu Garden and Property Maintenance Service

Based in Pontypridd, this social enterprise will give participants an opportunity to gain some of the necessary practical skills and training to progress in the gardening and construction industries.

What can be achieved?

By participating on the Community Aspire Project participants can achieve the following;

  • Positive life changes and improvements;
  • Increased confidence and self-worth;
  • Improved personal, employability and transferable skills;
  • A better understanding of various employment routes;
  • Access to training opportunities;
